What to Do in San Jose

From fascinating technology museums and mysterious historic mansions to beautiful gardens and lively neighbourhoods, discover some of San Jose’s most memorable attractions.

San Jose is an interesting destination for visitors who enjoy technology, history, culture and outdoor activities.

As the largest city in Silicon Valley, it offers a fascinating glimpse into one of the world’s most influential technology regions.

However, you do not need to be interested in computers to enjoy your visit.

Here are some experiences I would recommend including in your itinerary.

Visit the Tech Interactive

The Tech Interactive is one of San Jose’s most popular museums.

Located in downtown San Jose, this interactive science and technology centre offers exhibitions exploring innovation, engineering and scientific discovery.

Visitors can enjoy hands-on activities and learn about the technologies shaping our world.

It is particularly enjoyable for families with children.

Explore the Winchester Mystery House

The Winchester Mystery House is one of California’s most unusual historic attractions.

This enormous mansion is famous for its unusual architectural features, including staircases and passageways that have fascinated visitors for generations.

Join a guided tour to discover its history and explore the remarkable building.

Discover Santana Row

Santana Row is a lively shopping and dining destination featuring restaurants, cafés, boutiques and attractive pedestrian streets.

It is a pleasant place to enjoy lunch, browse the shops or spend an evening with friends.

The nearby Westfield Valley Fair shopping centre offers additional shopping opportunities.

Visit the Municipal Rose Garden

The San Jose Municipal Rose Garden is a beautiful public garden featuring thousands of rose bushes.

It is particularly attractive during the main flowering season, when colourful roses fill the garden.

Admission is free.

Explore Japantown

San Jose’s historic Japantown is one of the city’s most distinctive neighbourhoods.

Explore its restaurants, shops and cultural landmarks while learning about the Japanese American community’s history.

Discover Happy Hollow Park & Zoo

Happy Hollow Park & Zoo is a family-friendly attraction featuring animals, play areas and amusement rides designed primarily for younger children.

My advice is to spend one day exploring downtown San Jose and its museums, then dedicate another day to the Winchester Mystery House, Santana Row and the surrounding neighbourhoods.
